There are lots of requests for neck finish drawings, I too would like to get my hands on any, so pretty-please, is there anyone out there that is willing to share? I'm specifically interested in evaluating PCO 1881 med for potential material cost savings.

Have a customer asking for several sizes of 28mm neck with 1821 finish. As I ask for prices on these PET preforms, I am always quoted the grams which if good but the neck is just simply stated as PCO finish. Why are companies not giving additional info such as "1821". I have not spoke to these suppliers, only been doing the e-mail thing. I probably should call one of these companies and ask, but I found this forum and thought just ask whomever has the answer.

Hello,
I'm new to bottle packaging and design and I need assistance in determining the cap and neck finishes. I know that it's generally express us two numbers such as 20/400 or 24/410. But how can one tell if its a 400, a 410, a 415 or something else. Are there standards for cap and neck finishes?

Thank you so much for the help.

Regards,
Reds

PCO = Plastic Closure Only

Usually PCO finish stands for PCO 1810, but PCO finish has a family: PCO 1810, 1815, 1816, 1817, 1820 and 1823 finishes.

a metal closure will not work on a PCO thread finish because the thread on the Metal(aluminium) closure is formed by pressing the closure into the thread on the bottle finish during filling and closure application. The Metal Closure thread finishes have a larger dia. section below the thread area that allows the thread to open on the finish, the PCO does not have this section. (The thread root dia. of the PCO is constant from the top sealing area to the pilferband)

This may sound like a stupid question, but is there any way possible to use a metal cap on a PCO bottle neck? Whywill plastic work and not metal?

PET bottles usually have a perfect neck finish as the thread and top surface are effectivly injection moulded. It is unlikly you are talking about the rare extrusion-blow moulded PET bottles where neck finish may be poor by comparison.
The type of closure is usually decided by the application. If there is a reason for tamper-evidence, then the so-called pilfer-proof closure is required. almost any closure should seal on a PET neck.
