Some machine manufacturers say that vertical screw machines take up less floor space.
Also the material from a vertical screw flows directly down, but on horizontal screw machines the material has to turn through 90 degrees.
It's thought that this 'twist' in the plastic tries to 'unwind' due to the plastics memory effect.
Having said all the above, I can say that Uniloy produce excellent IBM and other types of blow moulding machines. In fact the horizontal screw is by far the most common configuration.
